Hello all. My parents recently gave me their 1967 16' Tahiti Runabout. I'm in the midst of performing boat maintenance and repair (to say the least). It suffered years of neglect (standing outside in the rain, uncovered, in western washington where it rains all year around). So far I've ripped up the carpet (wasn't hard - very deteriorated) and temporarily patched part of the floor. I need to replace the seat -- it's rotten and the vinyl rips when you put any pressure on it!! When I attempted to pull the seat out - I had no problem doing so - it wasn't attached to the boat in anyway! It was setting on a rotten, plywood frame (not attached to the floor) so I can use that as a template to replace with real wood. The style of seat is a long bench seat with seating on both sides -- pictures here:
http://www.vampirefish.com/tahiti.html

Since the boat is so small, I plan on using the old seat as a template for a new one. My question is how to attach my new seat to my boat. I've read several topics on this forum...so this was what I was thinking --

Rebuild the frame (out of solid, treated 2x4's). Bolt the seat to this frame and in turn, bolt the frame to a new piece of plywood?, which would then be attached to the floor? What should I use to 'attach' these? bolts, screws, etc?

Thanks!

I would replace the floor and stringers first. Chances are they are rotten from years of neglect. Then bolt the seats right to the floor. Lots of projects here that cover replacing floors. Do some searches.

Nice looking ski boat.

Years ago I saw your boat rebuilt with only the front cockpit having 2 car vinyl bucket seats and all of the rear space decked over right up to the engine well. Looked like 50 mph tied to the pier.

Beware, the more inspection you do, it's likely the more rot you will find. I started with a small repair in the floor, and next thing I know, I've now am replacing the entire floor.

With that in mind, I would also recommend what Mark42 suggests.

I also live in W. WA and after this floor replacement, I will do whatever it takes to keep the boat under cover at a minimum, to keep it dry.
