Hi guys, any of you build your own fishing rods? My brother in law used to, now he is cleaning house and offered me his rack and drying motor setup.

It might be something to get into on those long winter nights, but how many do you need to build before you get good at it? And how many do I really need?

Got any tips on sources for blanks, seats and guides, CHEAP. I would be using St Croix SC-3 or G Loomis GL3, because I like how the feel.

Any tips or comments?

Hey rebuilding the rods is pretty neat. I will try to find used rods that are good rods, you dont want to waste the time on cheap rods. i rebuold or repair for friends and family. It does take time, but in the end its worth it. Look on the net, you can find diffrent areas for rod building supplies. good luck. Hey call this place they have a lot of rebuilding suplies. 407-447-rods. There called Mud Hole.

The only rods I get time to build, are the ones
I break every once in a while. I Short'n up and
turn I'm into ice fishn rods, with a little epoxy
you can make a good short rod. :D

Re: Build Your own Rods???

Alright, I just talked to the brother in law. Told him I'd take his stuff and fix a broken rod and maybe build one to see if I have the patience for it. Then he told me all the stuff he was giving me, and that he wanted it out of his house this week. Said he paid $300 for it, but I only have to pay the postage.

I told him he could have it back whenever he wanted it.

I've been to a few websites (thanks guys) but don't know one set of guides from the next, grips, or reel seats, etc. I hate to make judgements on how they price things. I don't want cheap, but "decent" or "adequate" sounds like it would fit my budget. Blanks are the easy part, as I can go to the store and see how they feel on the factory rods. Actually I'm only 1 hour away from the St.Croix factory, I hear they have an outlet store, but don't know for sure.

OK, enough rambling. If anyone else has any input or links to websites, please feel free. I've got 5 more months to gather info, catalogs, and patience.
