Hey everyone, I am seeing advice on building a small bunk trailer for a 12' or 14' cedar strip boat. I have everything I need except the winch.
What I'd like to know is what ride height I should be looking to achieve or clearance from ground to the motor skeg.
I also would like to know about tongue length. I see them from short to long and I don't want a trailer that I have to immerse the bumper of my car in the lake to get the boat off.

If anyone has any suggestions, tips or good links to a DIY thread or site, I'd be very grateful.

I do know that with cedar strip boats, the bunks should extend to the transom and rollers are a no no except maybe under the keel. It isn't heavy anyway, so I don't need rollers anywhere really

Look into using a transom saver to lift the motor. Building the trailer high for the skeg to clear the ground during transport will make it harder to launch and retrieve. Use the tilt lock to lift the motor during launch and retrieve. Then you can keep the car out of the drink.

Tongue length could be dependent on the design of the trailer.

Figure on the plus side for the trailer tongue length, longer is better than shorter! Nothing worse than having to back up a short tongued trailer....
