I posted this in the Stingray forum, but its not as well traveled as this one. I have a Stingray 200LX that has a built in cooler under one of the bow seats. I need to remove this cooler to get to a bolt holding the rail on. It has come loose and needs to be re attached. I can't get to it because this cooler is in the way. I am thinking of cutting it out because I don't use it and could use the storage space since that's what I use it for now. Anyone else ever removed one of these??? Thanks

Re: Built in cooler

Any help at all???????? I fiil like it may be ok to cut this thing out, but I am just a little timid when it comes to cutting on my boat. I have no idea what may be around the cooler itself which is made of just plastic. On the Stingray website it is described as an insulated cooler, so I assume there is some sort of foam surrounding it.

Unless someone has the exact same boat as you they're not going to be able to say do it or don't do it. You have to figure out the best you can what's behind/below the built in cooler and decide if it's worth the risk. Chances are there's foam behind the fiberglass and it's a low risk operation, but I don't know your boat and can't say for sure that you won't cut through the hull.

I cut my under seat built in cooler out, granted it's an older Bayliner, I didn't use it either. I don't remember why I had to remove it might be the same basic reason you have. Whatever the case, I needed the extra storage space as well & with it removed there is a little more room in there now. I store my anchor, some extra rope's, & a few basic tools. Mine was located in the rear of the boat & it drained into the bilge area.

I had one under one of my bow seats that I cut out this spring with no problem. My boat is an older Mach 1 so couldn't say for sure. I didn't use it either and wanted the extra storage.

I think I will brave cutting the thing out. I really have no choice if I want to re attach my bow rail on that side. Here goes nothing.....

You can ask stingray directly. If you are a member of the official stingray owners forum, you can pose your question directly to a Stingray rep. who will respond. I've talked directly to Stingray.
