First the nitwit that parked too close to me, now today, when I took her for her first bath, (after first making sure it was a soft cloth car wash, not some nylon bristle place)I was taking pictures with the phones camera as she started down that track with the rollers in it to pull the car along, and as I was watching thru the view screen, I hear THUMP and see my baby shift ... THUMP????? WHAT!? I look and there is a CAR against MY TRUCK .... somebody yelled YO! be CAREFUL!!!

bellowing at probably somewhere north of 100 decibels, was ME

YOU ARE (EDIT) RIGHT BE CAREFUL !!!! THERE BETTER NOT BE A MARK ON MY @!)#*$#)(@)#*@)# TRUCK (EDIT) GRRRRRRRRRRRR

the guys there blanched, its ok dude, honest, no damage!

I went in and raised hell with the staff, and they assured me any damage would be handled professionally, dont worry we are fully insured

turns out the damage was limited to the other guys front plate

they gave me two extra weeks to get free washes, like I would trust them to whack my truck again!!!

I tell ya, its like the world has a bullseye on my little truck, the Impala didnt get hit or bothered or nothing, but the shiny new one is like a tar baby, with a big kick me sign on it

Re: bumper thumper ALREADY, GRRRRRRR

I was that way with my shiny new Ford Ranger 4x4.
The worst thing to go through is its very first scratch or ding.
I ended up backing into a tree in my back yard trying to unload some gravel. Dented the top of the tailgate.

I tell myself: It's a truck, and it's going to get dinged and scratched. There's no way around it. And the more you worry about it, the more it will happen!

Just use it...That's what it's made for!
If you get dings and dents...That's what they make body shops for!

H.

Hey there Ray,

I can't believe you took her to a car wash. I never use the automatic ones. You just don't know what kind of crap was on the cars before yours. Almost like spreading a diesease.

The old saying goes- - If you want something done right the way you like it, do it yourself.

If you want you truck to keep looking great. Add on those big huge tires, crash bars, roll cage, heavy duty suspension, and just make it look intimidating as you can. If it looks scarey and mean, people will tend to stay away from it. They don't want to make you mad because you just might drive over their car! :D They don't know if you will or not.

Just keep posting on it. I'm just waiting to see how long of a period of time when it has to go into the shop for a mechanical repair. Chevy does things to keep Mr. Goodwrench busy. :(

SS

Re: bumper thumper ALREADY, GRRRRRRR

ive read that they are hell on front brakes - and 500 miles later, the front wheels were filthy, and the rotors look almost glazed, with striation - not scoring, juzt lines

the trans does feel like it shudders juat a tad from a dead stop, I think Ill have them change the fluid and filter at the dealer to stop the shudder

im not hitting it hard from a stop, just normal acceleration, shifting at 3k

then again, babies always seem to have fevers, right?

SS, part of the deal is 4 free washes (and a free THUMP, grrrrr) in the first month of the vehicle, so one a week, wierd timing, but gets you in the habit of going often

soft rag system, giant filtration system, its a class operation

winter washing aint fun, better to let them do it

summer now, diff story, wash wax and detail

if there is time anyway, the older I get the faster time goes, and there is less of it to waste

ah well, beats the alternative!

:p

Re: bumper thumper ALREADY, GRRRRRRR

I only use a carwash in the winter. I use the local one that you drive in and stop, and it blasts with water jets, nothing actually touches it. It doesn't get it perfect, but it gets all that nasty winter road grime of. We use sand here, so the cars get absolutely filthy. What cracks me up is while I use the cheapy quick wash, is all the people who pony up for the Super Ultra Mega wash with wax and drying and all that. Once complete, they get out on the highway and are dirty by the time they get home. Not smart.

I do feel you pain. While my truck is not new, it does have a new paintjob, so I cringe when I park at Walmart, but I try not to think about it. It is white, so paint damage is far less noticable...

Re: bumper thumper ALREADY, GRRRRRRR

LOL, point well taken, the new thing is going to wear off and it will be getting crab traps in the bed and boats hooked on the back, and backed into salt water, mud on her, etc etc etc

its just the idea that I was taking pics of her getting her first bath, should be a good moment, and THUMP, lol, I can laugh now but yesterday I was in dire need of a chill pill the size of a SATELLITE DISH

I sorta know how you feel there homerr, my gran fury has NO marks on it, nada, and I had the door open and backed into a tree (that jumped out in front, well, in back of me :p ) bent the door down, I was so pissed, and I wasnt drunk or nothin, just buzzin on a high from spending the previous 14 hours in a neverending ummmm boinkathon ...

CRUNCH!!!!!

I was so mad, I just cut the rear belt out of the left hand rear seat, and tied the door shut, of course its about 2 degrees out, burnt my finger pulling the dome light out of its socket (how the hell a 12v bulb gets THAT hot, I dunno, I guess white hot is white hot, lol)

Drove it the sixty plus miles home and the
hydraulic jack brouht it back up, but every time I Would go out to the thing, my eye was drawn to the folded metal

meanwhile, back to the chebby

those car wash guys left a hand print on my door panel on the FABRIC too, I cleaned the vinyl part but the fabric, not sure what to use, dont want to set the stain in there by using the wrong thing

ah well. at least ill be a white collar worker now, I used to go half crazy trying to get the paint and grease off of me before I would get in my custom van, the paint truck and the tow truck, well, they were TRUCKS, workhorses, and I used em that way

still tried to keep me and them fairly clean tho, lol

Never did get a chance to put a scratch on my Jimmy Ray. When I do something I do it big. She had only 500 miles when this happened.
For this I got an air ride to the hospital and a six week vacation at the hospital...

Re: bumper thumper ALREADY, GRRRRRRR

Hey Ray, I feel your pain. My 2002 is barely a year old and has had it's share of parking garage dings and scratches. Well this past Friday I was driving to work like I always do up 1&9 into Hoboken when I feel the truck shake and I knew I just got hit. I stopped and got out and a guy in a Cherokee, merging in from the left off an on ramp drove right into the left rear fender of my stepside bed. I let quite a few obscenities go and waited AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES for a cop to finally arrive. Good thing I wasn't bleeding out! I was pissed! Look at it this way, at least you got the first few 'oopses' out of the way, even if they weren't your fault!

Ray,

Your first problem started when you entered a car wash. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING-or not!

Go to the quarter ($.25) washes where you actually have to get out of the truck and wash it yourself.

A new truck desrves better than a half A$$ wash from a machine.

C'mon, get with it!

Re: bumper thumper ALREADY, GRRRRRRR

sorry to hear that huminski, I would probably be arrested at this point

20 years ago, some creep backed into my van WHILE I WAS IN IT parked at the pennsauken mart

he started cursing at me, and the next thing I know there are a bunch of people pulling me off of this creep, and im throwing them off of me as fast as they can jump in

I heard my buddy yell DUDE YOUR TRUCK IS OK, then he said to the creep, you better leave before he gets mad again

problem was he was hung up on my hitch which was reinforced to class V specs (aircraft bolts AND welded to the frame, lol, no chances of it coming off), and floored it trying to get away, and ripped off his rear quarter panel, bunch of rust and bondo

I had to repaint my rear bumper, after kicking the crap off of my hitch, lol, weird how protective ya get over yer car!

woman cut in front of me in a lexus, again in Big Green, and the big beast dished out HER rear quarter panel

she pulled over, then left, I guess she was drunk

another can of matte black, good to go, my indestructable tank of a Tow Beast

the little red truck now, hmmmmmm, pretty as all hell but that tin is THIN, one good whack and off it goes to the body shop
