I am new to boating and just purchased a 75 Starcraft fish n ski and added bunks to each side of trailer to help in loading boat and to help support boat during transport. However I do not know the proper distance to place the bunks to the boat, do i make them touch, or just close or what any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Re: bunk distance

it can be done both ways.... when I had em I made em touch and then moved em in 1/2" so they would center the boat in strong currents

Re: bunk distance

My trailer has keel rollers and bunks. I have set it up so the rollers centre the boat and the bunks take most of the weight. This is because my keel has a slight amount of rocker. If you have a flat keel, you can use the rollers to take more weight, but they don't have the surface area of bunks so if you let them take most of the weight they'll fret and wear, or they'll ripple the keel.

Re: bunk distance

Most side bunks I've seen have an inch or more clearance between the bunk and hull. Enough space to keep the hull from getting scratches when loading and unloading. They can touch if that's what works for you. Their primary purpose is to keep the boat from drifting when windy or a current. Also helps to have a little space when cleaning the boat. If your trailer has bunks that support the hull then adjusting them will help center the boat and the side bunks just do their job to keep the boat from drifting side to side.
