bunk mounting location question

I am in the process of re-installing carpeted bunk boards on my aluminum v-hull boat. I now have bolster style bunk brackets with a swivel on them. I need to know how close the edge of the bunk board should be located to the flat edge of the strakes.

I am attaching a picture that may help to define the approximate distance the edge of the board should be from the flat edge of the strake where the strake is mounted to the bottom of the boat.

I do not presently have any other boat guides to help locate the boat on the trailer prior to pulling it out of the water.

Okay in that picture you will see the outer edge of the outer (passenger side on trailer) strake. You will see the red arrow pointing to the flat edge at the top of the strake. I will be laying the 3 1/2" side of the 2x4 bunk up against the bottom of the boat. So the 1 1/2" side of the bunk will be facing the side of the strake. I need to know how far out from where the top flat edge of the strake or center of the strake the bunk board should be located. There are two strakes on this 14" V-hull aluminum boat. The keel rests of 4 - 4" keel rollers in the center and I need to place these bunks at the appropriate distance out from the strake.

Hopefully this description better illustrates what I am trying to find out and accomplish. I can take other pictures from the back bottom of the boat if needed to better illustrate my set up.

Sean - A pic from the rear would help. While you posted a good side pic, it's hard to judge how far apart the bunks should be solely on that one pic. If the old bunks worked, you could just replicate the original method.

The bunk boards should be just inside the strakes and not hitting or rubbing on the strake where the rivets are.

No Title

~~Okay thanks, This trailer had the 1 1/2" side of the board at least 4" outside the strake towards the outside edges of the boat. I was replacing the brackets and using the wide side of the bunk and placing them closer to the outside of the strakes then they were. However given what you are saying they were originally in the wrong place altogether and need moved to the inside of the strakes.
As I understand it that would be one board on either side of the keel and between the keel and strake with the edge of the board close to the inside edge of each strake. Attached are a couple of pix from the rear with distance apart on keel and strakes. Hopefully they help. For some reason post notification is not coming through to my email. This is the reason for lengthy response.

OK now you can shoot me!!!! On your hull the strakes are pretty close together. 12" centers! Sorry, but move them back to original position or just to the outside of the strake w/o the bunk resting on the strake rivets. You want the bunk on a flat section of the bottom. Again sorry for the confusion, my Lund had 4 strakes on the bottom.

Shot and missed, bonz. If you go inside the strakes, the bunks will only be about 24" apart, that's narrow. I'm thinking the original locations would work OK. Heck, they probably did since 1985.

Are you having trouble launching or retrieving, Sean?

No problem, there was no way to know. Pictures were asked for early on and that would have clarified the situation sooner. Just glad to get a consensus on this concern. I am on track then as I was doing and will complete the mounting as suggested on the outside of the strakes after all, but not on the rivet area. Thanks again for all of the input on this!
