I have 125 force 1988 trophy center console

I came back from my trip but very happy how the boat ran but confused in regards of the over consumption of the boat.

but im sure the question will come flying in regards how much when were and conditions so here it goes...

the weather avrg choppy in cape cod ran for 3 hours at 3500rpms burned 100$

is that about right but im seriously adding to my lowrance hds7 gen2 a flow guage to really see whats going on.

any thoughts or even better if you have same boat etc...

Re: burns a lot fuel

Average fuel consumption on this 125HP (as a rule of thumb) is 10 gals per hour at WOT. You were around 3/4 WOT and you were consuming around 7 gals per hour (if gas price is $4/gal). Mathematically, you seem to be right on the money with your fuel consumption.

Re: burns a lot fuel

Try to figure out the mileage?
I get about 2 mi per gal.
I can't give an estimate on actual trip use.
This was with 2 people in the boat and regular fishing load.
Going out I can run maybe 20mph?
Some times I can run faster depending on the winds.
Coming in I ran about 28-30 mph.About 4500rpm's For 21 mi
The distance out and back is 46 mi from the ramp I figure we looked around for spots for maybe another 5-10 mi.
So about 60 mi is what I ran.(includes slow motion for search and fishing)
We used about 25 gal so a bit over 2mpg.
At $3.50 gal =about $80

Another thing? Prop? Weight in the boat? Load?
What's the RPM's at WOT?

Re: burns a lot fuel

Your rpm's at wot should be about 52-5500.
Maybe the guage? Maybe the linkage?
The prop seems like it's the right size.Is that alum. or stainless?
I tried a different pitch on my motors. It increased my fuel usage by 20%
There is a tag on the tank, it should have the size printed on it.
If not Bayliner will have that info.
Send the hull # and they can give you all the info.

Re: burns a lot fuel

well I did the link and sink procedure a few times but the is no info in regards cable adjust like throttle and gear adjustments

I only had 4000 rpms then played with the throttle then jumped up to 4700

I have a force spark tester don't know how to use it maybe even if it fires with outside and starts up with half a turn can I still have a ignition problem?

Re: burns a lot fuel

If your running at 4700
I doubt the spark is the problem.
The linkage.Go for a ride,remove the cover.
Then have someone push the throttle all the way by hand.
Prop? Stainless?
