I know, I know ...

Today I learned my lesson. I removed the decals from my 91' Bayliner Capri 2050. Photoshopped the boat prior, as I knew the removed decals would simplify the exterior of the boat and was pleased with the outcome.

HOWEVER, I have slight toasty tan marks here and there on the white gelcoat.

Initial rubbing compound (Starbrite) removed and lessoned the burn marks, but did not completely remove them.

My next options are:

1. more aggressive rubbing compound, 3M products, Collinite #870 etc ... (quick internet searches)
2. Wet sanding
3. Have a body shop take care of it ($$$) ?

So, what does everybody recommend as the most aggressive (yet safe) rubbing compound for gelcoat (boats)?

Would you recommend wet sanding?

Would you guys suggest going with a body shop to do the work vs DIY?

I've learned my lesson the hard way and will stick to my wife's hair dryer and goo-gone the next time. Or how about I buy a boat with decals I'm happy with. :)

I'd like to take care of this and restore the gelcoat to it's pearly white as I just reupholstered the entire interior as well as added an extended swim platform on the back. I already removed the decals from the blue gelcoat.

Thanks all!

Photoshop came out exactly like it is in real life. I'll post more pics later.
