Hey guys. Was out the other day and my motor lost all electrical power and was smoking badly. Able to limp it back to the launch, and used jumper cables to my trim wires to get the motor back up.

Anyway, found the fuses, and the burnt part. I did a bit or research and I believe this is a rectifier? Not sure if this is something i could easily replace or what exactly.

My motor is a 2001, 90HP Mercury 4-stroke, carbeurated. I've been having some problems with it running at full throttle as well, but that might be a carb issue, I have no idea. Let me know what part this is, and if I can replace it myself? Or best to get a mechanic to do it. I'm lucky the whole thing didn't burn down. But that sure would have taken care of the stupid problems I've been having with the carbs lol. Thanks guys!

That is the rectifier/regulator, and it is toast, obviously.

Have your model and serial #'s ready, and search with pictures

The #1 web site for genuine Mercury Mercruiser engines, parts and propellers

Once you have the factory part # you can search the web for a comparable part and hopefully find the same one at a much better price.

Some Merc ignitions are suceptable to a high speed miss with a bad rectifier. I don't know if that applies to your 4 stoke.

While at the parts page, save it to your Favorites so you can easily return for future searches, like for carb rebuildl kits, water pump impeller, the commonly used items.

Awesome resource. Thanks! I was able to find a used part off another motor using the serial numbers and info. That is awesome. New regulator is 525$, but the used one is 130$! Sweet.
Thanks again.
