Buy a warranty on a used Yamaha?

I'm looking at a boat with twin '99 150 Yamaha Saltwater OX66's. They have about 260 hours on them and have been maintained. (I've seen the maintenance records.) I can buy a factory two year warranty on these things for about $3600. <br /><br />I figure these motors are in pretty good condition. I'm going to have them checked over by an authorized technician. Assuming he doesn't find anything, is it still worth buying the warranties? If the mechanic doesn't find anything then I think it's unlikely I would have more than $3600 worth of covered repairs in the next two years. <br /><br />What do you think?

Seems expensive in my eyes, considering what Yamaha Extended Service warranty cost on a new Yamaha outboard. Your outboards is older and probably slightly higher risk of failure now, but $3600 is alot of money to me at least.<br /><br />I have a Yamaha F115 myself and I bought 3 extra year warranty when it was new. Hope I never need to use the warranty but if... The extra 3 year warranty was not near the $ you may pay (I paid $460 in my country for the 3 year extra warranty, but that was on a singel outboard and it was new -You have two outboards and they are not new).<br /><br />/Bo

Have the engines checked over very closely. After that, get a manual if you have any mechanical tallent. Most of the problems that arrise with outboards are from neglect, abuse and lack of maintence. If you keep them maintained with your manual and use them regularly, you will have very few problems. With that said, I would pass on the extra warranty. Even if you did have a problem, it would probably be a pain to get them to cover the repair due to many fine print disclaimers that they put in the legal jargon on those warranties.<br /><br />Knightgang
