Motor was stored for 10+years. New owner said he replace starter and solenoid to be safe. Was also told by service tech that is was good solid motor for it's age. Motor and boat apear to have been well taken care of.
Only want a dependable boat and motor for my father-in-law that he can feel comfortable with. Planning on taking it to my marina and running it for the mechanic to check out. Should it be dependable as long as I do regular maintenance.
Also what are the most important things I should watch for to make sure it won't be a headache. Got to keep my father-in-law happy..
Many thanks as any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Buying 1974 Chrysler outboard 105 HP

I have been (and continue to be) very happy with my 105 of similar vintage. I was forced to update to pointless ignition, but that was only because I could not source the CDI required for the points model at the time. Here in NZ most OB repair shops aren't interested in servicing Chryslers, so I have had to learn myself. I have recently acquired five (yes, 5!) spare motors (85,85,90,105,135) at minimal cost which share many common parts between them. Originally they were going to be donor motors to keep my 105 going for the next decade, but it looks as though all but one are goers! Buy a manual, learn to service the OB by yourself, and enjoy your boating. There is plenty of information on this site contributed by some fantastic people.
