Welcome Mr. Tide - Lots of info here.

Let me introduce you to the red Search at the top of the page. Go there and enter "1st Boat" and read about others who were in the same boat (pun intended).

Hey, just do what I did! Just jump right in blindfolded! Heck, I didn't even know the manufacturer of my boat went out of buisness last year! <---There's my tip....make sure they are still in buisness! Haha

Welcome to the forum. Well, anyway you bought a good boat to start off with. There's plenty of information on here and plenty more where that came from. Enjoy your new boat.

Insist on a test drive BEFORE closing the deal. Too many underpowered boats being sold to unsuspecting buyers.
Once you sign the papers, you're stuck with it. Test drive it fully loaded to be sure you will be happy with it.
Have the owner/sales rep go over all the controls with you, ( starting procedure, launching, loading, tilt/trim, lights, transom saver or trailering clip, safety guidelines, etc. If they won't do this for you, walk away. They need to spend an hour or two with you to earn their commission. !!!

If buying used, have the hull and engine thoroughly checked out by a pro, BEFORE you close the deal

Wut the other guys have already said. Also make sure they put a decent trailer under it. The cheapest trialer they can come up with will be a pill forever.

Kelly Cook

Be prepared to devote time to care and p.m. to your boat.If you don't you'll have a 17ft lawn ornament in a couple of years.

Jim

You didn't say if this will also be the first boat you will be operating. If so, take a boating safety course, buy charts and study where you will be going before you go out. An amazing number of people drop their first boat in the water and go out without knowing a red nun from The Flying Nun. Was a guy up here who ripped off his lower unit first time out because he assumed the proper course between any two points was a straight line!
