i am intersted in buying a boat it is bass boat it is 1986 champion it has 150 black max motor,1 trolling motor, 2 fish finders, moring cover,it is 19 foot and trailer,no rips or tears,top end motor has never been rebuilt, low unit has had some work,going to buy boat maybe any help you can give would be great and is this old of bass boat worth 5500.00 with no work thank you for your time smajors54

smajors,<br />i was going to buy a used 1990 boat. my wife convinced me to buy new. we purchased an 04 alumacraft navigator 175cs with an 04 90hp merc. buying new is better than buying something as old as an 86 that may present problems down the road. a boat is a long term toy and investment. i would spend the $$ and get something reliable.<br />good luck and good bass huntin!

I just sold a 1972 Kennedy Kraft (15'6") boat with a 20hp 1983 Mercury motor for $1500. I had just completely restored it with a new paint job, new seats, new trailer tires, etc. It had a transom mounted trolling motor and an inexpensive (but good) Eagle depth-finder.<br /><br />It's hard to say whether to buy a new one or get an older one. I put this boat in the paper for one week before going out of town and had 10 phone messages with people practically "begging" to come look at it. The day after I got back from vacation, I had 3 people willing to buy it. The first one who came back with the money got it. I really thought it was going to take longer to sell and didn't expect to get more than $1200 for it.<br /><br />I give glory to God for how it worked out. I'm the kind of guy who likes to buy old, fix up, and use. I kind of enjoy "tinkering". If you want to fish more and "tinker"/fix less, try to find a new one if it is in your budget. <br /><br />My "new" boat is a 1983 Glastron T-162. I'm getting closer to buying something that is "new".

Pricing is often not a function of logic. Time of year, condition and eagerness of buyer and seller come into play. If price is important to you check for comparables in Boat Trader magazine or Trader On Line.<br /><br />$5500.00 for a 18 year old 19' boat seems on the high side to me. Don't get dazzled by the fish finders or cover.

smajors,<br /><br />I checked the NADA guide for a 19' 86 Champion - it's not listed. There are 18' and 20' models listed. The 20' has high book of about $2,200 with fish finders. Assuming the 150 hp Merc is also an 86 - it prices out at just under $1,000.
