I just checked out prices on rapidomarine and am considering on getting a 350 Chevy Long Block. From what you can tell by the pics?

What would be more cost effective? Getting another engine or having the engine I have converted to marine? Considering it would cost total $3000 for new engine and installation.

I know this engines in rough shape and has a bunch of auto parts. I bought it this way and am trying to fix it.:)

I don't remember the details of your other post where you ask about this engine.... but simply buying a long block from Rapido - or anyone else for that matter - will not help you.

The long block aspect of the engine is not the biggest problem. It is the external stuff that can get you.

If you have to go out and buy all new externals, then you may be better off buying a whole bobtail marine engine.

NOTE: All of the above assumes you really mean "long block."

I agree.
It seems that you already have the long block part.
Evaluate it - compression test and measure oil pressure at cranking
then, if it checks out, you need everything else.

this is a long block

Looks like thats an automotive engine you got in there by looking at the egr valve on the intake manifold. I don't think they used emission controls in marine engines back then.

Does it run? How did they cobble up the TBI to function? I too, think you might be better off buying a whole other engine.

Believe me, if you are trying to save money by using the automotive engine, you won't . If your looking to save a little money and don't mind a used engine, keep your eyes open on ebay and craigslist. I have seen many 350 fully outfitted mercruiser go for anywhere between 800 and 2000. Otherwise I would go with a complete new setup.

Other than the auto accesories, What's wrong with the motor? A new long block won't get you much closer to a marine motor. Its all the hang ons that need to be changed.
