I am wanting to buy a new 15 HP for my boat. Which motor should I get? I want a 2-stroke, 15HP and I do not want a 4-stroke because they weigh more. I have narrowed it down to Merc, Suzuki, JohnnyRude, Yamaha, and Honda. Cost is not an issue, but service is, and all have service centers where I live. Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of each? I am looking for facts, not opinions.

Among the 2C motors you will probably find signiifcant weight differences as well, if weight is an issue. You might also consider what I call ease of service for routine jobs like water pump service. I'm not familiar with Yamaha or Honda, but have a lot of OMC and Merc experience and has always considered OMC easier motors to work on, while not technically dated (as was Chrysler aka Force, etc.) OMC motors have also been typically lighter than Merc of the same HP. Cost and ease of getting parts might also be a concern. I've had a Tohatsu 4C 6 HP for about a year, haven't needed any parts yet, but there are few places to get anything beyond plugs and impellers nearby. Good luck in whatever you choose.

I don't believe Honda makes a two stroke. All the Honda's I've seen have been four strokes.

Nathan,
Thanx for your kind words, following a bit of an issue I had run into on e-bay with purchase of a motor out of Florida...

Hopefully, I can return the favor, and direct you to a couple of UNBIASED information source, that might have what you're looking for.

None of these sources are paid by any of the makers of the equipment they test & compare. Thus, if they've done any of the comparisons you're looking for, they will be factual.

All are searchable on the internet.

1- Consumers Reports
2- Consumers Union
3- Trailer Boats Magazine

Good Luck, Obiwan Jeeper
