I live in vancouver bc would like to know if the Yamaha F115 2005 or 2006 is the one to buy and where the best place to purchase it. I have a 95 Johnson J115TLEO that has one cylinder with no compression and one with half. Always kepted in saltwater for 8 years never gets flushed, is it worth repairing.I think BenC is local to this area, does he have any ideas.

Have an 05 115. Very happy with it so far but only have 10 hrs. on it. So to early to tell. Can say that it fires right up, much better than an 02 F-80 i had that refused to start when cold. fred

I've had the bigger brother F150 for about two years now and am happy with it. Very dependable and sips gas. The F115 has a good track record.

Re: buying a new yamaha F115

hey corbs, the dealer i work for is in richmond but there are many in the lower mainland. shop around as prices can vary considerably. the f115 is tried and true and has been a proven performer since day 1. they only got better with efi in my mind.
your prop wont fit so you may want to work that in the deal, try and find a dealer that will sell you the outboard and rig/water test it. some dealers will just fit and send you on your way with a pat on the back and a smile.

Thanks for your help, I'll start shopping for my new F115. Should I wait for the 06's and boat show specials from Yamaha.

yamaha boat show specials are usually on runout models. i havent heard of anything new for the 115 so likely not them. probably yamaha will just jack up the yama bucks return around boat show. good for yamaha accessories for your new engine like propellors/guages etc. keep in mind everything is extra, yamaha dont include anything but the stuff required to hook the engine to a steering cable and bolt it to the transom.
boating season is almost over for us, so might not be bad idea to wait till boat show and just rent from granville island if you need to get out on the water one last time.

Hard to say on fixing the 95. Don't let the year be the decision driver. I have a pair of 87 110s that run in salt. Pull the heads and have a look see.

Re: buying a new yamaha F115

After a long weekend of thought, why should I buy a Yamaha and not a Merc or a Honda new. What happens to the old holes in the stern where my old Jonston was mounted, should I be concerned, the boat sits in the water year round. Is it also worth it to get the flush controls and key on the dash like I have now or should just go with the surface mount style (space is a concern). Some people say don't go with the Yamaha speedo stay with the one off the stern,is this so ?

Hi,
Yamaha F115 -06 model will be able to use the new Yamaha Command Link (new guages etc).
Link

The mounting pattern from your old outboard should fit the F115 since this is standardized.
Just mount the new outboard with new bolts and use for example Sikaflex to get the bolts sealed through the transom. And use nuts on outside so You can easy take the outboard away from transom later without need to re-seal the bolts.

What do I do with my existing thottle control and the key switch on the dash. I'd like to keep the same style for both because I find the surface Yamaha controls very bulky.

Take a look at a Johnson 115 4-s. '05 is the last year BRP will import them.
