Buying a used boat with a 1999 200 HP mercury

Fellows,<br /><br />I'm planning a road trip this weekend to look at a used boat that has a 1999 200 HP mercury. Can anyone tell me about this motor. I belive it's a Carb not EFI. <br /><br />Thanks<br />Stoked not

Hey stoked not,<br /><br />These are great motors.<br /><br />You should have no problems with it if you keep it maintained.<br /><br />Only drawback to the Mercury motors is that they are a little noisier than other outboards.<br /><br />Good Luck finding the boat that best serves your needs.<br /><br />Kenny

Yea stoked not,<br /><br />If the boat and motor were kept in the water (moored) check the motor (and boat) over for corrosion.<br /><br />Other than that, its a fairly new motor, it should be clean with no leaks (oil comming out of propeller exhaust area is normal) and everything greased and lubricated.<br /><br />Check gearcase for water intrusion. (Oil will be milky if it has water in it.)<br /><br />Check gearcase before purchasing!!!<br /><br />Engine should start easily, so be warry of one that does not fire right up.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Kenny
