I have the chance to buy a 1976 Coronet Seafarer with Volvo Penta AQ165 engines. The boat has not been in the water since 2007 but has been started up on a regular bases. Is there anything I should be looking at in regards to the engines, ie, seals, etc. I have never owned a boat before but looking for something my wife can go out for a weekend and do some diving, this boat fits the bill. Any advice would be appreciated

Those engines are expensive to maintain and since there are two, it will be twice the cost. Personally I would look for something newer. If you are a good mechanic and are looking for something to work on, then this boat may be what you need. Since it is a twin engine boat however, I'm guessing you plan to keep it in the water. That makes it difficult to work on. If you do buy the boat, we can help you with the maintenance.

Has the boat been in salt water or fresh.

I am not mechanically inclined at all. The boat has seen both fresh and salt water. The originall owner had intentions of a trip of a lifetime by boating from the Great lakes, around Newfoundland and then down to Ny/NJ area

If you can't do the repairs yourself ---- a much newer boat will be cheaper in the long run.
