I'm about to purchase a new outboard to be rigged on a 2006 Chase 580 (Campion) boat. It's down to two..200HP Evinrude E-Tec or 200 HP Suzuki 4-stroke.
Suggestions/opinions.
Thanks.

Re: Buying new outboard

Both are fine engines, Keps.

I would go with the better local dealer/service shop.

Re: Buying new outboard

I am with JB.
but I am a yamaha master tech, look it up on the yamaha website.
I am somewhat familar with yamaha products.
that being said my 175 E-tec is in :).
I will have the hull at the dealer saturday so they can install and rig it.
I personnally know nothing about the E-tech.
thats why I bought it.
the dealer is a long time friend and I have worked with and for him over the past 20 some odd years.
I told him I was gonna bust his motor. he told me ya got 3 years.
we will see.
I know what the yamahas will do, I am gonna see what the E-tech will do.

I promise to keep the motor inside its operating paremeters but I willl try to break it.

its gonna be fun :)

Re: Buying new outboard

RodBolt, I'm new to the forum but I see you respond to a great number of questions with what appears to be a very good grasp of marine products. I would be interested in hearing your opinion of the E-Tec after you've run it a while. My concern with a 2-stroke is that gas may begin to contain additives (meth, ethenoal) and that may damage or be bad for the motor. Is this a real concern?
Thanks.

Re: Buying new outboard

We in the midwest have used ethanol blended fuel since 1997. There is no problem running E10 in any of the new engines. In older engines which varnished and gunked up fuel systems, E10 will clean up those deposits and re-deposit them in the filters. After a few changes and a possible carb rebuild, you are good to go. Very old engines may have some problems with gaskets, seals, and rubber parts like fuel lines that aren't E10 friendly.
