I have a 1988 four winns 235 sundowner and it has a 5.7 litre 260 hp omc motor and an omc cobra outdrive with an aluminum prop that has seen better days it is a 15x19 and I am looking to buy a new one, the boat runs at around 4200 rpm's WOT with top speed around 33 mph wich seems low to me so before I buy a new one could someone tell me if I should or shouldn't change the pitch? I know i want to by a stainless for better performance but what about speed increase and rpm as far as the pitch goes

Re: Buying new prop any suggestions?

I think your speed should be in the mid to high 40s at 4200.
Is the speed by gps?
And your wot rpm should be around 4600.
You could have the prop repaired and get a new base line performance.
If a prop change is needed your prop could be a spare.
Is the motor in excellent tune.Timing right and advancing as it should?
Does the throttle open all the way.Good compression?
Is the bottom clean and smooth.
