I'm new to boating. We have a glastron sx175, first time out overheated, had the water pump changed and runs great now. Only problem is the other day we are coming back in and all of a sudden the same alarm starts beeping. I slowed down, looked at the gauges and nothing was off, it beeped about 4-5 times and shut itself off. Any clue on what causes this? Will it beep if battery is low? We played the radio for a long time just sitting out there not running. Thanks,
Jeff

Tell you what Id do...Since the boat got a new water pump impellar and Im assuming an ALPHA DRIVE.....you have to pull the lower unit to do that job. Requiring the drive oil to be drained and then refilled.

It is quite possible that when it was filled and now out for a run that the oil has settled and is a little low. The buzzer sounds for Low engine oil, Low Gear oil for the drive and over temp for the engine.

If your othe rgauges checked out the 1st place Id look is the gear oil. What year is this boat? I am assuming its got an ALPHA ONE drive and a gear lube monitor bottle mounted on the motor.

And no the buzzer usually wont go off due to low battery. In fact you could play the radio all day and you should still be fine to start the engine as long as you are using a true marine battery!

The boat is a 02 if that helps with anything else I should look for.

Thanks,

Ok, here is the update on what is going on. I'm learning so much about boats in the last month and this forum is helpful and scary to read some times.

Again, when we'd just cruise slowly, temp would be at 174, as soon as we plane out and run around 3000rpms, temp would rise and alarm would go off at 195 degrees. Get it in neutral and within a minute, temp back down and alarm off. Mechanic figures the thermostat is stuck shut or part shut, that is why at slow speed no overheat, as soon as we increase the RPM's not opening to let water through. He pulled the thermostat off so continuous water went through and the boat ran great, now we are waiting for the new thermostat. Does this sound normal? Also, the first time we overheated, it got VERY hot, like 220. He checked the engine over and said no damage, should I be worried anyway?
Again, we have a volvo penta sx 3.0L 2002

Thanks

What do you mean "Again" ? that is the first time you posted that information.

Is your mechanic a "Marine Mechanic" ? or an automotive mechanic.

Have you ever run this boat out of the water without water going to the drive thu muffs?
The pump that was replaced, was it the raw water pump, or the engines circulating pump? Was a pump, or an impeller replaced?

My mechanic is a marine mechanic, in fact he installs I/O's for a living. Sorry with the "again" on the engine, I had thought I said it in my first post. It was the raw water pump and impeller that were replaced and yeah we have run it with the muffs.
