Bypassing kill switch ???

I am looking to bypass the kill switch on my 84 50hrs johnson ...opened the controls and found three wires to the switch black = ground , purple and grey .. is this as simple as attatching the purple and grey ?????? <br /><br />BTW the isue I have is the motor will run great when the kill switch is pressed in but dies right away if released .. Any other ideas ???? <br /><br /><br />thanks <br />JAmie

Jamie....do you have the kill switch key in place? If so, all you may need is just a new key for the kill switch. By the way, if your clip is in place, does yours use the old style clip that sorta looks like a little umberella? If so, get rid of it and get the new style. It's a three prong clip. You can get them from your local John/Rude dealer.
