Are there any cartridges out there that would fit in different brand gps units? Or are they all company made for just their own gps?Is there a company that makes gps maps, but is not tied to a specific brand?
The reason why I am asking is that I would love to download the free lowrance maps from the net and use them in my garmin.

Re: c-cartridges.

Lowrance uses the standard mmc/sd cards which can also be purchased at an electronics store or the electronics department of most department stores. These are the same cards that many digital cameras use and are quite redily available and easily compatible to operate from the USB port on nearly all modern PC's.

NAVIONICS is an independent company that produces maps for different GPS units. XL and Classic intercoastal regional maps will be to the tune of around $200. A little better deal is their Hot Maps package which covers freshwater regions to the tune of $129

I have a Lowrance x18c and an I finder handheld which can use the same mmc/sd cards interchangably. However, I believe this to be attributed to the same data format which Lowrance uses.

As far as downloading Lowrance maps into data to be read by other manufacturers units, I don't believe it will work.
