Soooo, I am cruising up US 99 about 55 mph when the truck starts to accelerate. Not cool, in merging traffic at an interchange. Quickly let off the trottle and jerk jerk jerk it backs down. Thottle up and it rattles like it is cold. Ran another 100 or so miles and it intermittantly "takes off" and when you back off the throttle, jerk jerk jerk. Down shift smooths the decelration. IDEAS! COMMENTS OR CONCERNS. :^:^:^ The emoticons didn't translate. ;) http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=3142654&an=0&page=0#Post3142654

Wasn't the governor a suspect in the last hiccup you had with the oil burner?

Do you mean the one when you told me Diesel was not your field of expertise? ;) I take it you have something against diesel fuel. :^ Awkshoeally, that problem was pump timing. However, if you remember the electrical wiring in this application is a nightmare. I also notice that the wait to start light had come on but the glow plugs burned out some time after I got that corrected. My middle boys Dodge spirit developed a problem that may be more up your alley. I will send you a Dear Aldo letter if you like.8)

55 on 99 is way too slow. The truck knows that and was trying not to get rear-ended:$

You are "way' correct on that one, unfortunately the semi in front of my intelligent truck did not know that. ;)

Trucks and trailers should be allowed to travel at the speed limit plus 10mph. That would help eliminate congestion:love:

I'm with xtraham and Aldo. Not sure why bad fuel or air or _____ would cause it to accelerate on it's own, especially against a load. It might surge, but not accelerate as you describe. Governor can do this, and a runaway can be particularly nasty! I've seen a 14 liter go until it killed itself, and although it was cool, I really don't care to see another and this one was parked . . . If I were you I'd be carrying a really stiff/strong piece of plywood big enough to block off all of the air to that bad boy ;) Also, if it does go and you are lucky enough to have it in gear, use your brakes to kill it, but DON'T push in the clutch. The fact that it rattled going up in RPM tells me it is not in the control linkage as that should not affect how it runs. It is possible that the governor and that funky timing solenoid deal conspired together, who knows? I saw a note about timing advance on the other thread as well.

I would not mess with this. I'd get it fixed muy pronto.

Kevin, how often do you change your sig? Where's the 'sand/drowning' one?

I have about five or six of them Aldo, and they are set to "random" in the sig section thing deal. I changed the sand/drowning one slightly: There are only two rules on my boat, no sand and no drowning. Listed in order of priority. at Techno's request . . . I actually use that line with kids when they're on my boat for the first time. I am practicing to be a crotchety old man

Make sure your oil is not overfilled. That can be the first symptom as the extra can get drawn into the intake through the breather and burn as fuel. Many a diesel runaway attributed to overfilled oil. You might be getting lucky...

Excellent probable and I had just changed oil. I use a two gallon container and the balance from another two gallon one gallon or quarts. Checking the oil revealed that the level was indeed above the full line. Here is another question. What happens when you crank the engine with the antidiesel switch open? I hadn't run the truck in several days so before I started it I decided to check for air. Sure enough air. Several short bursts cleared the air so I am ready to crank for start. Will there be an abundance of fuel?
