Re: CABLE ADJUSTMENT

First see if you can find a good OMC shop that does Cobras because that is probably what you have. This is not an easy adjustment to get right and if you mess it up it will start jumping out of gear (which will ruin the dog clutch and foward gear). The Cobra has 2 cylinders to raise the drive like a Merc, unlike the old OMC stringer drive (big rubber boot in the transom).
If you want to learn all about it and do it yourself, get an OMC shop manual and see this site:
www.funkopolis.com:8080/~stuart/cobra/
The main problem with these is sticky transom shift cables and non working ESA systems.
What problem are you trying to solve?

Re: CABLE ADJUSTMENT

What do you mean by "skipping"? Is it surging, or is it like the key being turned on and off?

Chris.............

Re: CABLE ADJUSTMENT

Now we're getting somewhere. Does it rev up ok in neutral? At what revs does the problem occur? If you suspect electrical, try jumpering out some of the harness. For test purposes only, remove the shift cutout switch from the coil (if Cobras have them) and see if the problem is fixed. Try running a wire direct from the battery to the coil (like hot-wiring), but not for too long as it can stress the points. You could even disconnect the tacho, I've seen one take down an engine.

Let us know how you go.

Chris............
