cable adjustments

hey i got a 1987 mercruiser 4cyl 140hsp engine with an alpha one outdrive.. does anyone know what the cable adjustments on the top of the motor are supposed to be at? my problem is.. i have forward and neutral but i do not have reverse.. i can adjust them manually and i have reverse.. but i just cant seem to get the correct setting on the cables.. anyone have a pic of theirs or can tell me measurements?

If you can't get the above adjustments, you will probably need either a new upper or lower shift cable. Too much slop in them means to little movement to shift both directions.

Then it's time to follow the adjustment procedures from start to finish. Then it will work correctly. Hopefully you hooked up the shift cable in the proper holes in the control.
