I have a 1960 Crestliner 17ft w/cable and pulley steering. The boat pulls hard to the right. The boat has A 100 Hp old johnson. I tried adjusting the steering and that did not seem to help. Any
suggestions would be welcome.

When say "pulls hard to the right" do you mean that the boat moves to the right when the engine appears to be centered on the transom, or that the steering wheel is hard to turn when turning right?

Re: Cable pulley steering

I am considering changing from the cable system to a teleflex. I am wondering if that would most
likely take care of the problem.

Re: Cable pulley steering

I've had cable/pulley systems since the 1950's, and would be happy to never see one again. Only keep mine (1) because the boat is authentic (for what that's worth), and (2)it would be difficult to retrofit a TeleFlex into a narrow, finned boat.

If you don't have either of the above concerns, there a lot to be gained with modern steering, expecially with a 100 hp engine.

Re: Cable pulley steering

Lark 40, thanks for the valueable feedback. I have one other question. I had a small leak that
caused water to sit in the boat for a fair amount of time. Some of the foam under the floorboards
was waterlogged. How important is that foam under
the decking?
