I have a 1992 Mercury 100 HP engine, and I recently put in a new control box and new cable shifters. I can easily shift in gear, forward and reverse; however, when I do so I cannot retrace my actions. For instance, if I put it in forward gear I cannot slow the boat down using the controls; the throttle works fine, but I have to physically open the motor and push the cable with my hand in order to do so. The cable is locked in place in the motor and the end of it (the piston-like moving part of it) moves a certain amount one way but will not move the entire way back unless i do it manually. In addition, when I use the choke lever to give the engine more gas...raising the lever works fine for giving more gas but when I lower it nothing happens...the engine continues to rev as it did at the point to which i had initially raised the lever. I have to apply the same manual adjustment in order for it to stop. Any suggestions?
