Caliper Replacement Question

I am in the process of replacing my Tie Down 10 inch calipers because the old ones are seized and in bad shape. My question is, should I use some type of lubricant on the two stainless steel slider bolts that the calipers slide on. I know the calipers have a bronze insert that rubs up against the slider bolt but thought it might make them easier to float on the rotors with a lubricant. If this makes sense what type of lubricant would you sugest? I will make sure I use a high strenght thread locker on the threaded ends of these slider bolts on the install.
Thanks

Re: Caliper Replacement Question

Hate to be captain obvious but they sell Brake Grease for just this application. Any of your local auto parts stores should carry it.

As for the thread locker...only if the manufacturer recommends it. Remember, you have to be able to remove those as well to service your brakes. Torque them to spec and you should be fine without the thread locker.

Out of curiosity do you have the G4 or G5 calibers? I just replaced my G4s that were shot with G5s and the instructions from Tie Down didn't say to put any grease on the pins. It did mention using the thread locker on them like you said.

They are the 46304 series if that will help.

Don't use regular grease or antisieze on them. Get the caliper pin grease like UncleWillie suggests. there are a few brands out there. Permatex is one

Re: Caliper Replacement Question

In automotive applications regular grease gums up due to heat, and then attracts dirt, creating more of a problem. Use a high temp caliper grease as suggested.

Loctite on the threads seems overkill to me, but I would follow their recommendations. Grease or oil on the threads will cause the loctite to not work. Just fyi.
