Re: Calling all Chebby guys!

If you swap heads you will have problems with your TBI. your stock fuel tables won't support the extra air flow of the vortec heads. You will have to have someone reflash your computer/promchip for the new combo.<br />With the edelbrock kit these issues are all addressed.<br />Good luck

bluewater, is that to say the the Edelbrock MPI would compensate for switching to Vortec Heads?

Originally posted by TilliamWe:<br /> Boom or anybody, the next time you see a 1997 or newer 454, would you remove the air cleaner & photo the injection system for me. Cause on my dad's 97 Burb 2500 it sure looked like a normal TBI to me, I couldn't see individual fuel rails.
TW, pull off the top off the aircleaner. On a TBI the two injectors would be unmistakeable.

Boom, the reason I asked you or anyone else, is because I live in Illinois, and my dad lives in Florida. Oh, and he replaced the 97 Suburban 2500 7.4 with a 2003 Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab Duramax Allison. So it's not available to look at or even get photos of. I know what TBI looks like, my boat has it. I just never could see individual fuel rails on his 7.4 in that Burb. The air cleaner fits in the center, like a TBI one does. That's why I was never sure that it was MPI.

My 1996 Chevy K1500 has the vortec 350 from the factory, it will haul *** if you need it to, seems to enjoy life over 3,000 rpms you almost get a boost in power right there and it screams to redline...<br /><br />'96 was the first year for it in the pickup trucks. '95 blazers had the vortec 4.3L in them as well, I think that was the first year although I may be wrong about that one.<br /><br />-John

Tilliam<br />The air filter does fit on the top just like TBI . On the vortec motors but the injectors are inside the plastic manifold. The throttle body only has one big butterfly not the 2 like TBI.<br /><br />Boomyal,<br />I know they make that MPI system to people who have swtiched to vortec on smallblocks I don't know about the 454 vortec.<br />E-mail there techsupport people they are very good.<br />They will tell you the truth and not just try to get you to buy thier stuff.<br />They went as far as to recomend a competitors cam for my boat when there performer cam had the wrong LSA for marine apps.

Re: Calling all Chebby guys!

bluewater, thanks for clearing up a mystery that has haunted me for 4 years!<br /><br />
I know they make that MPI system to people who have swtiched to vortec on smallblocks I don't know about the 454 vortec.
Ok, so next question, did they change the intake manifold bolt angle on the 454 like they did on the 350, when they made it "vortec". Cause my 1997 Vortec 350 has only 8 intake bolts and they are straight up, not at the "old" 90 degree angle. (don't get me started about the 1987 and up inner two bolts at that 45 or so degree angle!) That will be the thing that boom runs into if he switches to Vortec heads, if that's what your quote is talking about, right?
