I own a spotless 1972 Johnson 125 HP outboard and it shows a model number of

125ESL72R

stamped on the plate on the engine. I understand the 125 is for the HP and the 72 is the year but I am clueless on what the "R" stands for???? Would it be a racing engine and if so how rare is it???? Very curious on my find!!!

LostBoater72 in Sacramento
Proud Classic Glastron Owner
Proud 50th Anniversay Johnson Owner

Hi ya' Lost....from what I can find....your model is the only model they produced in 72'. Usually the last letter means a particular model run like if they switched carbs in the middle of the production cycle. But...yours is the only one I see for 72'.

Re: CALLING ALL JOHNSON OUTBOARD EXPERTS!!

Thank you all for your help. I have one more question, in the original owners manual it states I can order a service manual for my older outboard. I have a SELOC which works fine but I am curious on how I can get my hands on a Johnson Original service manual. It states it would be service manual #JM-7212 and to send $4.00(in 1972) to Johnson Motors. Any ideas???

Thanks again,
LostBoater72 beginning to be found
