Take a look at the picture below. I want to mount a transducer on the transom. Where do you think is the best position to mount it?

I also want to consider some mounting alternatives because I'm also considering Smart Tabs, so I don't want the transducer to interfere with the Smart Tab installation. Another consideration is that the boat is in a dry stack. When the lift operator takes the boat off the trailer, the forks on the lift are just inside of the bunks on the trailer. When the boat is moved from the dry stack to the water, the forks on the lift are in the same position as the bunks on the trailer.

EDIT: Oh Yea, to make matters worse, I don't want to mount it inside the hull because there is a temperature sensor and paddle wheel for the speedometer.

Tough choice. I think in your case that is probably the best place. My only consern is looks like could be closer than 8 inches to the center of your boat. Only problem would be in a left turn could cause turblance and cause you prop to cavitate.

With the stakes you have on the boat and where your bunks are your do not have much of a choice except where you are looking at or possible shoot thru hull.

When you install trim tabs they will need to be inside the area of reverse chims.

Thanks Boatist. I edited my post a little. So to clarify, you suggest mounting in the recessed transom area to the right of the outdrive.

That is correct. Does that area have more than 8 inches? Starboard side is prefered with a standard right hand prop. I would mount it on a transducer mounting plate and glue the plate to the hull with silicone seal as a temporary test. Then if it works good drill some holes in the hull and bolt it down or use a better glue.

The boat is in a dry stack until April 15 so I can't run out and check the 8" measurement from the center line of the boat. I think I'll be ok though. Take a look at the picture I posted. The trailer bunks are 2x4's with carpet. Using the bunk width as a guide helps in estimating the measurement from the center line. Looks like I should have at least 12" on the right side of the outdrive.

I like the idea of using a mounting plate and temporarily gluing to the hull as a test. I like even more not drilling holes below the water line. Any ideas on the type of glue I could use as a more permanent solution for gluing the plate to the hull?
