Just curious how your guys Huntin is going? Is it still gun season in your states? How much of the season is left for you guys? (Deer-huntin I mean).

Just curious what the other states are like compared to Indiana.

I finally got a buck last Friday, (even though I am repeating myself, because I said this on another thread :D ) Can't ever tell people too many times that you got a buck.............at least thats what I always say. :p

Carphunter, Deer season starts on monday (PA). I'm leaving on sunday for camp for 3 days. Been talking to the ranger at the campgrounds where we stay apparently the antler restrictions have been working he says he's been seeing bigger bucks.

Dad and I both have doe tags also. So hopefully we will be comming back with 4 deer total. Let everybody know how I did on thursday 12/4 when I'm back in town.

Sorry have no input here for I don't hunt the furry kind but only stalk the ones with scales.. My brother comes up to hunt but more than likely you will find me around a fire with a cup of coffee in my hand..I have been known to take my rods with me and pratice some casting though..

Good luck jgregory. :)

There are soo many people on this site, that I couldn't fit them all in the title to this thread, sorry.

Our gun season stops this Sunday. The rut here is tapering off. Most of the best action, around here, starts around the first of November, and runs to around Thanksgiving.

Is it true jgregory, that they shut down the schools and businesses in PA for opening day of gun season? Man, that would be great!!! :D

gonfishn, your to much man....the thrill of the hunt...I've been known to take a nap, a time or two. Travelin down south Ozona Tex. by the Mexican border, beautiful country, we hit a deer with the dam car. Just wounderfull. Gutshot my first deer. Took three back to camp...then I pucked, from the smell of the deer I shot. Its been scales ever since. Can clean a fish no problem. I would do it again given the chance.

Carphunter from what I heard I believe its true, I know of a couple of schools in the Poconos that used to shut down for that day.

But as hunting and guns are no longer PC (in the NE anyway)that may not be the case any more. Will ask My cousin that lives in Tioga County and get back to you.

Our rifle season ends after the first weekend in December. I havn't been able to do any serious hunting this season due to a non-stop arthritis flare up. I just hobble to my lawn chair 100 yards or so from my truck and hope one comes by.I got a nice 6 pointer like that the year before last.

MN season was over 10 days ago, I think.

WI gun season runs thru Sunday. Well, then there is a late muzzle loader and late archery season. But this is the week we have 650,000 hunters in the woods, chasing 1,640,000 deer. Plenty of deer harvested on opening day, but not so many on Sunday or Monday, due to rainy weather.

I don't get involved with the hunt, but end up as hotel central for the hunters, and butcher shop central for those that get lucky. 3 Deer hanging in my woods already. I guess I'll be busy this weekend.

I live in an area with too many deer. So you can buy extra tags for antlerless deer, up to two a day. But most hunters don't bother with more than one bonus deer.

MI firearm deer season runs from Nov. 15th to the 30th. This is my first year hunting, and so far I'm having fun, even though I haven't seen any deer yet. Opening day in SE michigan definately sounds like you are in the middle of a war zone.

"November 15 is the only day of the year where you can hear the sun rise."

Carphunter, yes, it is true, PA is a Redneck state and it shuts down (major cities excepted) for the first day of rifle season (which starts Monday). Our local schools have a "Thanksgiving Holiday" from Thursday through Tuesday (about 60% of the students AND teachers would be absent if they had school). They will go back to school next Wednesday.

The contracting company that is helping me build my house is taking off all of next week!

Yes, we take deer hunting pretty seriously. And the bucks are getting more plentiful and biger since they enacted the "3 points on one side to make it a legal buck" rule!

In my part of Virginia, rifle season started last Saturday and runs through the first Saturday in January. Limit per hunter is three, one of which must be antlerless. The limit is only for rifle, other seasons add on to that.

Too many deer around here now. Back when my father hunted in the late '40's you were fortunate to even see one.

Good Hunting,

Jinx

Re: Calling Flahthead, Aspeck, GonFishn, and anyone else.

Aspeck, unfortunately, the DNR officials that set the game laws in Indiana, (or have the biggest say in setting those laws), aren't the smartest individuals. Indiana is sandwiched between two of the better states for quality whitetail hunting. You would think we could learn something from our neighbors. What I am talking about is the fact that a buck in Indiana has to have one antler that is 3-inches long, to be legal game! Instead of setting up minimum size restrictions, the DNR has opted for a one buck per year rule. Guess what, this rule really only affects the bowhunters. The majority of the people who hunt deer in this state, do so during gun season. Those people will be shooting the same deer they have always shot. Now the bowhunters will have to hold out, but we are definetly the minority. I stopped by my "butcher" friends house the other day, and he had probably 50 to 60 whitetail antlers from bucks that were killed this year, during gun season, that were all 1-1/2 year old bucks!!!!!

Why can't they understand that to produce quality bucks, you have to reduce the number of small bucks that are taken. Gotta pass them little ones to get the big ones.

Man, that really makes me mad.

Oh well...........Good luck all.
