Those of you that have been following the tax issues in Oregon probably already know about today's OVERWHELMING support to put the upcoming income tax increase on the ballot.

For those of you that don't know, our beloved state tried to put an $800 million dollar "Income tax surcharge" on our income WITHOUT our vote and/or permission.

We needed 50,420 signatures to be put on a special election ballot in February.
The signatures had to be turned in today.

The "unofficial" tally shows a 2:1 result.
The LARGEST TURNOUT on a special election in our state's history.
We apparently have over 100,000+ signatures.

Local News Story

HEY SALEM! CAN YOU HEAR US NOW?

NO MEANS NO! You are NOT getting any more money. Deal with it like the rest of us!

Down in flames! :D

I feel better now! :)

H.

Stick with it neighbor!
I'd like to see a grand grass roots recall on all of them.
It's dang sure possible if we start at the local and state level!

Just got a $70 dollar reduction in my vehicle licence fee this month. And I have a $45 rebate comeing back from a VLF two months ago.
Thanks Govenor. :p

You all need to do something like we have in WI.
Licenses, fees, registrations, etc, have to be based on the actual administrative costs, and the cost of services rendered, and are not to be used as an extra revenue source.

Example- annual auto registration- $45. period.

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

I guess this thread's title line mis-lead me. Here I was thinking it had something to do with how bad the Oregan State Beavers need to beat USC a week from Saturday to prove how the BCS system is a joke. I'm sorry :D

Homerr, I don't think Moose cares about the "BEAVERS" and "TROJANS", more so the BCS and why the Cornhuskers can't break the top 20

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

lol Tylerin. Actually it's simple why the Huskers can't break the top 20... their lack of scoring ability! :D

The problem is with the BCS in general. I want to see a National Championship game where one team is undefeated, and the other team has 2 losses going in. THEN, to have the undefeated team lose, and have the team with 2 losses declared National Champion.

NCAA Football needs playoffs, plain and simple. Though the Huskers have 3 National Titles in the last 10 years... many Michigan fans would disagree with 1997. The BCS always works to Nebraska's favor, so that's not the problem ;)

Homerr, I'm sorry to have sidetracked your thread here... I'll shuddap now :p

It may be so. I personally like the level of services in the state of Oregon, will vote for the tax, and think that the anti tax wackos are nothing but bunch of 'want something for nothing' sissies and whiners.

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

Hmmm...this should get interesting. :D The anti tax people (here at least) don't want something for nothing...we want NOTHING for nothing. I think it's bull**** that I have to pay for all kinds of pointless programs that I don't agree with or will never make use of, not to mention the fact that oregon does a HORRIBLE job managing their money, they could do a hell of alot better with what they have instead of asking for more...

Well Old Sailor,

There are 147,000+ of us that don't want it.
Enough is enough. No more taxes. The state WILL stay within their budget and like it.

We're not going to fall of the planet tomorrow, nor will we lose all those 'critical' services the media wants you to believe.

Take a look around you... You see all those fancy new buildings going in, or that new baseball field around the corner?
Yep..sure looks like the state is hurting for money.

True, there will be cuts. No doubt about it, but I highly doubt it will be as bad as they want you to believe.

Do you really think they will discontinue the tax after 3 years has passed?

NOT!

Wasn't our federal taxes suppose to be temporary?

Well said ZmOz. I agree 100%.

H.

Yep, we sure don't need baseball fields. Let the kids play in the alleys where they belong.

Or rapid transit. We sure don't need that. I've got an SUV and as long as they spend the billions it's going to take on new roads to handle the crush, we sure don't need to spend a few hundred million on an efficient mode of transportation.

Or schools. Oregon cut their school year by 20 days or so, and cut teacher's pay. The good teachers are going to Washington State and California where they can make a living, but we won't need a trained workforce in Oregon anyway.

And, of course, laying off State Police is a great idea. The states of Washington and Idaho thank you all, as it costs money to train them, and they are in process of hiring the laid off Oregon troopers that you have paid to train.

Great Idea!!!

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

We don't need that fancy new ball-field when there's already a perfectly good one in place.
Around my area, there are several ball fields that aren't even being used, but they want to build a fancy new one to go along with that fancy new street intersection (or whatever)

Most recently there was a proposal to build a pro ball field at the state capital ON THE TAXPAYERS MONEY. It was more important than schools, than medical care, than food, than emergency services.
Thank God it was defeated.

Point being, Oregon has schools going under, people starving, and people with no medical care.
Yes sir...Let's make that new ball-field instead.
It's far more important.

It's "All for the kids" This is exactly what the media and politicians want you to believe.

And we wouldn't have this traffic problem if we kept the Californians out! LOL! :)

Yes, I have to agree...The roads are a bit snarled around here. I really feel for you guys in the bigger cities. What a mess!
I'm a country boy. If there's more than 4 or 5 cars at a given time in an intersection, I think that's a traffic jam!

And as far as needing police? Oregon is ALREADY a police state. The last thing we need around here is more law enforcement. There's enough already (IMO). When you see them pulling people over in the middle of B.F.E. on an old country road, or see them shooting radar way back in the middle of nowhere during hunting season...Yep we sure need more. It wouldn't make sense to put them on the highways where they need to be.
(I've seen both of these examples this year)

I for one will be smiling when I say NO to the tax increase we will vote on in February.
My families' money is OURS. The state gets enough already and they will not get any more.

Thanks for the input everyone. I figured it would get heated a bit.

H.

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

Plywoody, I think you ought to move to Oregon so you can become a willing donor to all of their Socialist programs. Programs, in the middle of a recession, like sending a state representative to the home of each newborn to make sure you have what it takes to be a new parent. Give me one big fat ******* break. These people are sick.

As to your "rapid transit", it was said after the big 'North/South Lightrail' initiative was defeated, big time, a few years back, that you could have paid every 'proposed rider', of that system, $30,000 a year just to stay home (for years) and still have money left over. And 'proposed' ridership NEVER comes close to the reality.

The State of Oregon has a Napolianic complex and will apparently spend itself into oblivion trying to achieve these lofty goals that have eventually caused governments to collapse from there own weight wherever they have been tried before.

And for the amount of money that they are spending, per child, and can't even keep the schools open, they ought to be drawn and quartered.

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

That's right Boomyal...

What was the last figures?
$10,000 PER CHILD they/we spend?

Compared to other states... How much do they spend per kid?

And Oregon wants MORE ? HA!

Personally, I liked the idea of vouchers.
Heck, give me 1/4 or 1/8 of that... I'll teach my kids at home.
It's been proved time and again that home schooling is superior. They don't have the distractions to say the least about being bombarded with the drugs, sex, and the rest of the filth.

H.

Yeah, plywoody, as I said they already have MORE than enough money, they've just got their heads so far up their *** they can't see it. Yet they still want MORE! Pretty soon there's going to be nobody left to pay all the **** taxes...

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

Does anyone know if there is a web site that tracks how many people and businesses that are in Oregon?

I know it couldn't be exact, but it would be interesting to see how many people and businesses are moving out of here.

H.

Re: Calling Oregon State: Now do you understand what NO means?

hahaha talk about a police town. here in kitty hawk . all of 4 square miles. we have 17 paid cops. 3 detectives a police dept building a chief that makes almost 90K a year plus perks. a boat that they cant keep running. a jet ski they cant keep running. a ten wheel exmilitary truck that normally doesnt run and has flat tires but the local auto truck shop soaks us for monthly patching at it.we have 2 jeep cherokees, a suburban 18 crusiers one with a permmanatnt mount infra red detector. and at least 3 unmarked cars. 2 brand new city maint truckls but no one maintains anything. most the roads belong to the state. after the hurricane they were all paralyzed and wringing the hands and wailing. those of us that live witout government were laughing. I jumped in my boat and went and got gas and Ice for all the neighbors and we all had fun here in the woods. it was funny but costly how all the so called law performed,. I detest laws that try to legislate common sense they dont work.
