Hi I was wondering if a stock crate engine camshaft is fine for my Wellcraft 210 or should it have a marine camshaft and if so why is a marine shaft needed
thanks for any info
Marine Camshafts will have a different Profile(Duration/Lift/Overlap/Lobe Centerline) than a Cam used in Cars?Trucks. Different Operating Parameters/Requirements necessitate this. Most Auto/Truck grinds are worse than useless in a Marine Engine.
Marine Engine Manufacturers understand this far better than a Auto Engine Builder(GM and Ford excempted)/Rebuilder or some guy at the local speed shop,

the term crate engine can mean anything from a 5hp briggs and stratton to a 2000hp, twin super-charged and twin turbocharged 9.4 liter LS.
so..... what did you buy
what is it going into
if you bought anything but a Marine Motor or an RV/Truck motor (such as one for a hot-rod), not only is the camshaft wrong, however the compression ratio may be wrong.
