Hi I think Im getting warm on my motor issues but have a...
QUESTION: Is it possible for a powerpack to work when cranking the motor and not to work after the motor starts?
I have a 1988 Evinrude Xp VRO 150hp V6 that has been acting up. It would start and idle fine but would lose power and die at WOT. Got spark at all 6 cylinders when cranking to start (but not after it starts). Compression check is good. Rebuilt the carbs and synched them. Battery is new. Fuel and filter are new.
I think the problem is the power pack. I noticed that the motor was only firing on one bank. I swapped the power packs and the problem followed to the other bank. With the motor running i tapped the "faulty" power pack and it started firing on that bank for a moment. I hooked up the timing gun to all 6 coils and they all fired when cranking to start but after it started the bank with the power pack in question stopped firing.
Is it safe to say the power pack is shot or can it be stator, rectifier, or timer base?
Also is it best to buy an OEM powerpack or Sierra?
Thanks for your help!
