There has been many post here on iboats in regard to fuel pumps and their replacements. The older style 4 and 6 cylinder pumps have built in fuel filters, and many of us have recommend adding the fuel water separator. Fuel pumps are pricey and the ones with filters are many times more. If the V8 pumps such as Airtex model 60942 which can be had for around $50, this would be a great thing for other wanting to upgrade their fuel system.

NO, it won't work. The arm is different.

I would believe (not sure) in making the change (even if possible) you would then be needed to reroute/install new? hard fuel lines to make it fit properly. Some of the fuel pumps are said to be positional in past threads but that seems kind of like a pain to want to mess around with.

Also bear in mind that some fuel pumps have a mounting plate while others don't and typically the thickness of the mounting gasket is very important in obtaining the correct fuel pressure. Below is an example of the gaskets and plate.

I'm not sure it would work either, but would be great if it did for those needing to replace their pump. The ones that have brought it to mind where the later model 3.0 with the filter housing facing down. Just a thought bouncing around in my head.

The V8 pump has a short arm for the push rod to contact, were as the in-line pump has a longer arm that rides directly on the cam lobe. So I doubt it would pump at all.

The arm length and how it works is what caused me to think of this to begin with. My 8.2L uses a belt driven fuel/sea water pump setup. The fuel pump rides on a cam inside the pump housing which is lubed by gear oil. Be nice if I had an old 3.0L fuel pump which I could compare the lengths.
