A boat is tied up at the dock, the outdrive trim is run up until the drive is out of the water (about 30 degree angle). If there is a hard freeze, could there be enough water left in the lower unit to damage the drive?

If its a stern drive better to leave it submerged.

Yes it can, and rain is known to collect in the LU that is tilted up and freeze. Straight down is the way to go.

Appreciate the reply. This is what I was figuring, if you pull the boat into the dock then raise the drive to keep crud from building up on the lower unit, there would be some water left in it. A friend of mine does this and pulls the boat out sometime in December. The issue would be if we got a hard freeze for a couple days. The cold would would freeze faster with the drive up then if it was left down and in the water.
