I have a volvo penta 4.3GL engine paired with a sx-m outdrive gear ratio 1.79 that has a bad upper and lower seals that leak. By bad upper I mean the pinion bearing carrier is seized up and the drive shaft is bent. I have an offer to buy this complete outdrive with gear ratio 1.60 from a guy that had it on an '07 sea ray paired with a 5.0GL for $1000. Comes with prop, gimbal housing steering forks.

Can anyone tell me if it will bolt up to my boat. I tried to post a few pics of the outdrive but it said i wasn't authorized to do that?? Any issues with the gear ratio being different? I've read that I may have to switch props but the new outdrive comes with a prop so that shouldn't be an issue.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and hope everyone had a great 4th of July!!

I'm not seeing the picture ....... I see a small black box with an "x" like it tried but it's not showing. Could be just my PC .....

I think you need to replace your outdrive with the same ratio. On older Volvo's a the 1.60 ratio was for a V8 engine. Hopefully others will chime in.

thanks for replying. The sx-a did not work. I would have had to change out the entire transom shield, gimbal housing, etc...

next question - Can I just repair my upper or buy a new upper and put it on my old lower? I can have my upper rebuilt for about $500 or buy a new one for about $1000. Is this possible? Any issues with doing this that I need to be aware of?
