Yes, in your second picture it's half a flapper, not all off it, just half.

Yes. That's half of the flapper. Best to find the rest of it.

Thanks, I've been looking in the sterndrive manual but can't seem to find where it's located.

I know I'm probably looking in the wrong places but where is the flapper suppose to be?

Thanks

The flappers are in the top of the Y pipe, you won't find them in the drive manual, or the drives parts lookup. Look under the engine information.

Remove the exhaust elbow off the manifold.

Thanks Don, I'm trying to figure out from browsing diagrams wether I have a "newer" style y pipe or the "3 piece" type that according to posts requires the engine to be removed to replace the shutters.

It's dark outside and the wife will lock the door behind me if I go out with a flashlight to turn some wrenches.

I so don't want to pull the engine. Just when I thought I was going to get a good night's sleep.......

When you remove the riser you will probably find they will also need replacing.

Hard to say, what engine do you have. Was guessing with the 0C number, but that is just the drive serial number. It may or may not have been original for your boat or engine. Do you have an engine serial number? or maybe an engine year and model number would help.

Original motor was C658976 but when it was pulled last year by the dealership they replaced it with one they had in stock A452410. I purchased the boat this summer and the PO told me where he had the work done. I called them and they explained they took the best bits off of both engines to make a good one. That's the short version anyway.

Ok, you are running a 3.7L of some sort depending on what pieces from which engine you have. Not sure what you are looking at that is 3 or 4 inch pipe, but you don't have a Y pipe, because you don't have a V engine.
The flapper OEM part number for your setup is 60930 no matter which SN you use. Item 6 in the image below.

Yes, sorry Don, I should have stated it is a 470. I was hoping I could get access to the shutter by just removing the rubber exhaust tube connecting the lower pipe to the upper but I think I have to remove the exhaust elbow/reservoir, then the upper pipe, to finally get to the lower pipe to find the shutter.

I just replaced the coolant a couple of weeks ago too....
