Can bearing housing be welded

I just snapped off one of the ears where the bolt goes in on the lower unit bearing housing. This is on a '78 15Hp Evinrude. Do you think it can be repaired? I have a feeling this is an expensive part.

Sorry I can't see the extent of the damage. Most of the time things of this nature can be salvaged. If you are or know a competent welder almost anything is possible.

Hi Bud, If I remember correctly that ear and the other ear holds the bearing in place. Before you weld it try to use it as it is now. You may be surprized. The problem with welding aluminum is it becomes verry soft after being welded.
