Can I add through prop exhaust to a boat that currently has through hull

My first boat was a 1987 wellcraft elite 222XL with a chevy 350 and an alpha 1 Gen 1 drive with through prop exhaust. I sold that boat. I am currently looking at a 1986 Formula 206 that has the identical engine/drive combo. The only difference is that the formula has full time through hull and not even that option formula had where it went through the swim platform (silent thunder I think they call it) no this boat has two flappers above the swim platform. I am sure it would be cool for like a day but I suspect in longer trips up and down the river I would want to jab my eardrums out with an ice pick. I am pretty sure I could add that "Y" shaped manifold or better yet a captains choice set up, but I don't know for sure what would be involved which brings me here. Would it just be a matter of me buying the "Y" shaped manifold thing and plumbing it through the bellows? I suspect I will have to remove the engine to do this?

Ayuh,...... You've got it,.... If the Y-pipe ain't still down there, ya need to pull the motor to install it,......

Once the Y-pipe is in, you can go with switchable exhaust, or plug up the transom, 'n go thru-prop altogether,...

Yea, 1986 is the year before the Silent Thunder Swim Platform . . . so you just got the loud pipes.

To convert to thru-prop exhaust, you will need the standard exhaust pieces, y pipe, etc. and then pull the engine from the boat. . . do the transom assembly connection of the y-pipe . . . Probably will cost a bit.

You mentioned a switchable set-up (captain's call). That will be even more pricey.

Have you considered just adding Corsa Quick & Quiet tips to your current thru-hull ?

Well, I haven't bought it yet but let me look up "corsa quick & quiet tips" and see exactly what they are.

On my wellcraft there were flappers in between the riser tubes and the "Y" pipe. It looks like on the formula the flappers are external as long as the corsa system you speak of doesn't negate the flappers I think it will be fine. I really don't like the look of the external flappers but I understand their purpose. Are there internal flappers like the ones I had on my Y-pipe in my wellcraft that mount in side the transom of a typical thru hull setup? Sorry, I am not that familiar with through hull exhaust systems as I have never owned one.

The Y-pipe has flappers in them also, You will need captains call/quick n quite selectors. Pic below shows Corsa with aluminum manifolds and stainless elbows. Corsa uses electrical solenoids to close/open shutters.

Now if your OK with load up on plane but would like quite when your going slow, just get some turn downs. A lot less cost and they bolt right to your external tips
