Progressing on my 14' Starcraft restoration. After much research I settled on replacing the transom and seats with 3/4 exterior plywood with transom glued together with Loctite PL polyurethane adhesive. All the wood has been coated with two coats of US composites 835 two part epoxy. I had some very minor seam leaks and sealed the seams with Gluvit.
Now I need to paint the interior of the hull as well as the wood seats and transom to protect the epoxy. My question is can I use Rustoleum Marine Topside primer followed by Marine Topside paint on the interior of the hull to paint the seams where the gluvit was applied as well as the rest of the interior of the hull. The Primer would be applied to cover the bare aluminum on the interior. Most of the original paint from 1977 is still on the sides of the hull and the seat structures but the floor is nearly bare and of course I removed all the paint around the seals to apply the Gluvit. I would be using brush and roller.
Also I want to use the same paint on the wood transom and seats before I install them. Our local boat store has limited options and I am running out of summer so I do not want to order paint and wait for it to come.
Has anyone used these over epoxy and gluvit before? The are oil based enamels and not polyurethanes but I can get them locally at Lowes and that is the big advantage.
US Composites website says the 835 epoxy can be top coated with any "epoxy compatible coating"
Any advice or experience would be appreciated. I looked through the archives and found a lot of help on painting the hull but nothing around painting over epoxy applied to plywood.
