2002 Bayliner 19' 1950 Classic with 3.0 Alpha 1. I think its a 15 or 16" prop and I do not know the pitch. where is the pitch listed on the prop and can I read it from the water? at full trim the prop is almost out of the water. Can I change it on the water? not sure of the Tach reading at WOT because the tach stopped working a last week. working on fixing the tach issue. Thanks

Yes, we will allow you to change it on the water, but only if you do it in shallow water with clear visibility to the bottom, in case you drop something.

Where is the pitch listed varies by brand of prop. Pitch and/or part number might be imprinted on an area that is covered by the retaining washer when installed on the boat. There is a good chance you'll have to remove it from the boat in order to read it.

Incidentally pitch is ALSO measured in inches, as is diameter. So a 15" x 17" prop measures 15" diameter and has 17" of pitch.

As previous poster said, yes a prop can be removed/replaced on the water, until you accidentally drop something and it immediately sinks...

If your prop isn't out of the water at full tilt I wouldn't try changing in the water. That's just me. You have to ask yourself, do you feel lucky? Huh do you punk?

It's like high stakes gambling. If you have a tube inflated nearby, that makes a great floating workbench.

If you want to make it easy...

A calm body of water. Land boat at your favorite beach. Spin boat by hand stern in to shore, trimmed up as far as it will go.

Lift up on drive, while further beaching boat.

A boat like yours and prop will be out of water. You can also move peeps to the bow to lift stern.

1-1/16 deep socket(Not the plastic junk),2by piece of lumber to keep prop from spinning.

The Bayliner owner's club is done VERY well. You may find best prop for your rig that folks have tested. The testing being the expensive part.
