Can I decarb in a barrel?

I have read many posts about decarbing with Seafoam. The instructions include running a gallon of mixed gas with 3/4 can of Seafoam at WOT. If I remove the prop, can I do the same in a barrel? My logic is I need to get the RPM's up and if I remove the prop, I should be able to accomplish that in a barrel. I will need to make sure I keep a good water flow to avoid overheating. What do you think? I have a Johnson 9.5.

DO NOT run a 2 cycle engine unloaded!!! This can result in a run away condition and bad things can happen, like destruction. Run in a barrel with the propeller spinning and in gear if you must, but it is best to run it on a boat if possible. Rick

You can do a decent decarb in a barrel running at about 1/3 throttle with the prop on. Even the 1/3 throttle isn't really necessary, but don't push it past that or runaway is very likely.

Thanks for the tip. I can run it on the lake but thought I could save some time by doing the same in a barrel. I"ll save smoking out the neighbors and take it to the lake.

Yeah, at least at the lake if someone objects you can point to the smoke drifting off and say "it was that guy that just went around the bend" then talk a lot about fogging for skeeters.
