Hi folks, been reading a bunch of the posts on Starcraft, I
have made a purchase! 1974 16’ Starcraft Holiday with a 60HP Johnson, looks like early 90’s vintage. Will research the plate to find out exact year / make model. I
will likely do the floor and transom in the winter but she’s a runner as is, was out today. Might fancy it up
with a paint job (the admiral likes original fire engine red) I’ll be hoping / looking for help as I go. Very excited!

Smart phones do automatic screen content orientation rotation. What that often means is when you take a vertical photo, most of the pixels/picture is vertical (portrait orientation)

Because of people taking a lot of portrait photos, it doesn't play well with saving and exporting photos. Most images/photos we see/use are landscape orientation, which means most of the pixels/picture is horizontal.

As long as the photos were taken by your smart phone and not altered, it will usually show them the correctly for the orientation your device is in.

However, when you export photos either via smart device or via a computer, you must verify carefully the image exported to the web is in the correct position.

I recommend practicing this to be familiar with what steps your smart devices needs to publish photos in the correct orientation. Household members are an excellent resource to "volunteer" to help practice, or practice on the boat.

There is a crack on both sides of the splash well and both sides broke at the connection point to the gunwale. I am
assuming a small 90 deg plate will be fine for the connection to the gunwale, what about the crack in the splash guard? Form something and rivet as well? Is this common or has a fat guy done a swan dive or two off the back of my new - to - me boat?

Also found this wire sheered off sitting in the splash guard. There is a sticker on it that looks like it reads “do not connect to battery ___ ____ internal circuit”? It runs to the brown wire in the second picture and ground on the engine block. I have been reading about heating issues on the VRO and remember seeing brown wires as the thermistor (or whatever is used) leads. Anyone have an idea what this is for? I’d like to relocate the tell tale to the top, looking for the service bulletin on that.

Create a topic in the Evinrude/Johnson section. Most of those who are experts in that regularly check that section.

Looks like the wire that goes from the VRO oil tank to the wire harness of the engine.

On a full VRO delete, typically this wire would be completely removed and not just cut and duct taped.

I guess someone was in a rush or didn't know better in leaving that in place.

The brown wire is your overheat/no oil/oil warning alarm circuit. When the brown wire circuit reaches ground, it triggers the alarm buzzer on the throttle control box.

As always, please obtain a factory service manual or at least your model's current wire diagram before doing any work on the electrical.

Will do Havoc on the Johnson forum, thank you.
