I don't own any boat jack stands so I was wondering if it is a bad idea to paint the bottom of my boat while it is on the trailer. I have a roller trailer and I was thinking that I could just paint it where it sits, let it dry, and then move the boat a little back on the trailer and paint the spots I missed. Is this a bad idea? what other options are there?

If the boat is small enough to move it, fine, or use a come-along or the winch with pulleys. If you are going to paint it near the ramp, don't crank it up all the way, then paint, then move forward with the winch.
Another trick: lower the trailer jack, put blocks under the transom, raise the jack: this will expose the stern areas. Do the opposite for the bow.
WARNING: Use an extender on your roller/brush; don't get your arms anywhere underneath. This method, it should be obvious, is also dangerous. Not advised for large boats!

what paint do you recommend? It is a 1962 fiberglass and it looks like the original paint.
