Hello all.

I believe to have a 1972 Mercury 40HP 402 Series outboard. I was curious if anyone could tell me if I could stick a temp, voltage and fuel gauges for this motor? If so could someone be so kind to direct me to a site that has these gauges and possibly installation instructions.

P.S. Does anyone have a service manual for this motor?
Thanks all
Jay

Re: Can I put gauges on my outboard??

Jay,

Lots of ppl are saying to put a pressure gauge in instead of a temp guage... sounds like a fair enough idea to me, but i couldnt be sure how to do it.
With the fuel guage, you'll need a sender unit to fit into the petrol tank. This'll mean that you'll have to get the tank degassed before you start (probly not a good idea to blow yourself up :D ). You need to cut a hole in the top (details should come with your sender unit) fit the sender in and wire it up to a guage. if the motor has electrics (i assume it does being that you want a voltage meter) you'll probably want to wire the guage in with the ignition circuit so that it only draws juice when the motor is generating current.
On the voltage meter, i believe they just wire up over the two battery terminals.
Good Luck
Andrew
