Hi everyone,

I am in the process of rebuilding my glastron cv-19 which had a mercruiser 888 fitted. The transom plate / gimbal housing was in terrible shape adn when i took it apart i discovered the trim sensor missing, etc. some parts are hard to come by in the UK so my question is can i fit a newer transom assembly?

From what i have read i think i have a MC-1 sterndrive unit with the trim sensor on the inside above the steering pin.

There are quite a few on ebay but not sure if they will fit the for 302 engine mounts, etc? I have read some posts about exhausts not fitting but could i put a through transom exhaust and blank of the y-pipe?

any advise or suggestions would be gratefully recieved as im a bit lost in all the information.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... To the Best of my knowledge, marryin' a Ford to an Alpha 1, can't be done,....

I don't think the Ford flywheel cover was built with the Alpha's closer together rear motor mounts,...

MC-1s have Wide rear motor mounts,...

Its a 1976 glastron as far as i have been able to make out.

If the rear mounts are different and they cant be mated, anyone got any suggestions of alternative options? would like to keep the ford 302 since the engine mounts have already been glassed into the new deck and i have done work to the engine already.

Or am i stuck with the MC-1 (i think thats what its called)?

should have two sensors on there. On the port side is a trim limiting switch, and on the starboard side is your trim sensor.

in the "adults only" section there are pictures to help you identify the outdrive model you have.

Thanks for the info, i have just checked and it is an MC-1 unit i have, which has the trim sensor fitted internally (and in my case missing). Would any of the alpha 1 gen 1 transom assemblies mate with my ford 302 bellhousing or would it have the same problem as mentioned above?

When you say internally, do you mean inside the boat, or on the gimbal ring? If they are on the gimbal ring you are probably in good shape.

I did a MC-1 transom fitting not long ago...the original was rotted out. Bought it used off ebay. I have an alpha outdrive stuck on the MC-1 transom fitting (actually called a gimbal housing).

The alpha 1 and the mc1 transom fittings (Gimbal housings) are different at the exhaust connection, so you must get a mc-1 transom fitting to match the internal y-pipe etc.

Externally, for the bell housing etc, my alpha (gen 1) bolted right up. My engine is a 350GM, and the boat is a 1979.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Ayuh,.... I donno when the motor mount spacin' changed, whether at the R drive, or the MR drive, maybe even the Alpha 1,....

As for a Ford pattern Flywheel cover with the narrow spacin',....
I Don't know what block flange pattern was used with the infamous 470s,...
It's got abunch of Ford parts,... Donno,....??...

Exhaust will no doubt be another adventure in itself,...

470 used a standard chevy bellhousing so that's out. Only thing would be left would be a SBF-SBC bellhousing adapter but I'm not even sure that would work in a marine application

I mean that the sensor (well i have found a switch) which is located up behind the steering pin on the transom assembly, looks like it could be a stop sensor or something. I assumed that it is for the trim?

Cheers for all the replies, it looks like i might just have to stick with the unit i have and try my best to re-assemble.
